Details needed, for a CC refund?
The bad meal, which we had at a pub in St Davids, whilst away....
All this took place entirely via email, from the pubs rather amateur website which included a yahoo email address. I emailed them my complaint and included the approximate cost, they emailed me back to say they had found the transaction and gave me the exact cost which I can confirm was correct. The pub agreed to refund the cost in full, back to my Mastercard - the same one I had paid for the meal with. I had provided them with the date, the rough time, my full name on the card and the last four digits on the card. They wrote back, saying they couldn't do a refund with just the last four digits, they needed all 16, so I emailed the full 16 numbers. Now they have emailed me again, but using a different email address (AOL) to say they also need the expiry date and the three digit security number from the back. I am getting a little suspicious here... Do they/ should they really need this much detail to enable them to process a refund?

Sounds like a "scam" to me. More info than required by a genuine purveyor
Change of e-mail address..... No one needs all 16 digits unless they need to scam your details. Check first via your card provider...

If you have to do this, do it by phone. At least that way, you are only relying on the trustworthiness of the operator, and you know where you are phoning. Doing it via email, and your computer is not secure, you are displaying your entire card details to a potential world of scumbags. Whatever you do, do NOT put all three pieces of information onto the same email!

Yes can confirm they will need complete card details due to (PCI-DSS) card payment security requirements. They are not permitted to store details anywhere but in the dumb terminal used to process payment, to take more cash or refund they must entire card numbers, security no, start date, end date etc. all over again.
Anything less places you at risk; they have already broken regulations if they asked for card details by email, phone is OK but must be entered in terminal during the call, recording on paper for later entry is against compliance regulations. PS. Some terminals ask for house number + numbers from post code e.g. XX13 7XX which they have to enter - not all the same different rules apply to different or types of business terminals.
