Default Pretty Sure My Dad's Been Scammed

My 87 year old Dad supposedly Bought a Car on Ebay ( very cheap.. so warning bells straight off for me ) and the deal was/is being done via this MOB ..linky.

But now since he's paid up ( 3K ) its all going to rats , he's had 3 promised delivery dates missed and no replies to querys .

Their UK Phone number is having "techinal problems" .

Oh no get onto paypal (did he use paypal?) and try and get payment reversed. Or whichever method he used to pay.

I really do hope he hasnt been scammed - but it looks like he may have - pity he did a bank transfer..

there are so many crooks out there now - trying to steal from everyone else.. it does my head in..

and on a different type of scamming - the emails they can send can look so valid that its easy to see why people can put details in as requested. my dad constantly rings me up asking about emails he has received..

anyway getting back to the point - I really do hope all works out, and your dad hasn't been scammed..

what has ebay said? Can they do anything if payment is via bank transfer? not sure? I expect not....

Its a straight scam... unfortunately as much as i dont want to say this, there is nothing you can do and i very much doubt you'll ever see that money again.

eBay cant do anything as it was done via bank transfer, the best thing to do would be to ring the banks "fraud protection line" and explain what has happened.
They may be able to reverse it, but only with 14 days... or something like that, any longer then you money really is lost

Sorry to tell you this is a scam that has been doing the rounds for years.

My brother in law was almost taken in. Lady advertised a car in Oxford, a nearly new Audi A3 for £5000. When he rang, she was joining her partner in South Africa and the car had been taken there by him.

She also offered the transport system to deliver the vehicle.

Fortunately he realised there was no car, no 'lady' and it was a scam.

I would very strongly suspect a scam - looking up that web domain gives me this .

As you can see nothing left to do to make the actual domain operator any more hidden. It will probably disappear fairly soon (the website) Once the word has been sufficiently circulated.

If he bought the car through Ebay (i.e. 'buy it now' ) then He may be able to get Ebay involved (but may not help much). But if he contacted as a classified ad then the purchase was made outside of Ebay. Was any part of the sum payed by Paypal, maybe as a deposit? If so then contact Paypal - you should be able to at least recover that.

As also said contact your (your father's) bank as well and see what they can do.
