My first 75 was the only one I'd ever seen that had the letter and had actually had the protectors fitted! I think the majority of owners must have ignored the letter.

About 10 minutes each side..

Regarding the safety re-call.

I had a letter from MG Rover in 2004 asking me to take my new 75 back to the main dealer for a safety modification.

The MG Rover dealership only fitted the spring protectors and did not replace the front springs.

Its asks for the owner to contact their dealer to have a spring retention componant fitted as a precautionary measure.

This letter related to a 51 reg car.

Anyone else seen these letters?
How can you check if your car had gone back to be checked out?

TC
Nor I, what I do know is that they were not fitted to my 2004 and 2004 on were not subject to the recall - which has always puzzled me. I have not noticed any difference in the strut design, my struts had the holes for mounting protectors, so I fitted some.

I had them on and off a few times, because they squeaked when on, but that eventually stopped and now they are on permanently.

Keeping the springs oiled or even better - greased is good advice. They break because fatigue happens where they are pitted by rust.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.
