I spent around a year of evenings, rebuilding one of those for my dad. The sills (both inner and outer) had rusted from the inside out, so lots of rewiring and repainting also, only to find that the rear suspension mountings were all but hanging on by their rusty fingernails. More cutting, welding and painting resulted in a very solid V8. Unfortunately, the whole process had taken too long for dad and he had bought another one. Our milkman bought it as a Sunday motor and I saw it knocking around for years after. My knuckles still ache from doing those inboard rear brakes. We even bought a crypton tune to set up those points to the correct dwell angle.

Thanks for your replies! I'm absolutely delighted with it, and work is continuing in earnest.
Yesterday evening, I set about changing the front seats and carpet on one side, having already fitted a new steering wheel, and a Lucas 608 dipping mirror.

Here are the photos.

V8nderful.

Smelt the inside of one at POL 2015. Memories came flooding back of many a roasting day in my childhood feeling like a hot potato on the rear seats of my Dad's 2000 SC auto. A sedate car shall we say.

Is the steering wheel on upside down (looking by the badge) or is it just me?

Who cares. Listen to the rumble not your wallet. The SD1 V8 (auto) could get around 25 MPG on a leisurely run. 19 MPG around town.

If you are lucky 21mpg on a run without hitting the loud pedal hard, short trips in winter average about 12mpg with as low as 8mpg if under 2 miles each way - in their day when I had a V8 P6 fuel was of course much cheaper than today though balanced by lower income.

SD1 was a tad more fuel efficient due to lighter weight and streamlined shape.
