We had a one train working single line branch that ran up to a local coal mine. In the early '80s most freights still had a full crew, driver, 2nd man and guard. Train of empties went up, the 2nd man and guard were eyeing a field of cabbages next to the line, they asked the driver to stop on the way down so that they could get a few. The driver agreed but warned them the farmer was a barsteward and if he saw them he was liable to let loose with his shotgun! The driver duly stopped at the field on the way back down, the guard and 2nd man went down into the field but at the same time the driver climbed down the other side of the loco and placed two detonators in front of the wheels. He climbed back into the cab, released the brakes and let the train roll forward over the detonators . . . . BANG BANG! The guard and 2nd man, understandably, thought this was the farmer with his shotgun, dumped their load of cabbages, cleared the fence with a single bound and up into the cab almost without touching the steps only to find the driver just about wetting himself with laughter

Yes, I did of course realise you meant Yesterday CHANNEL and it's not on via Virgin Media as I said.

Bit of a heads up for anyone interested.
Picked this up yesterday from WHSmiths, it's a really good read especially the chapters on the restoration and owners

Many thanks for the heads up. Not quite the same as a touchy feely magazine, but I've just downloaded a copy for free onto my iPad.
