Default Fuel Tank Strap - Diesel

Hi All,

I don't suppose anyone has (or knows a link) a technical drawing of the fuel tank strap used on tourers that shows its dimensions?

They look easy enough to fabricate so whilst I have the ships workshop and steel I might as well make myself a replacement one to fit.

ENDED UP REALISING IT REALLY ISN'T PRACTICAL NOT HAVING A CAR TO GET AROUND AND I NOW OWN A VW EOS 3.2 V6 INDIVIDUAL (1 OF 20 REMAINING IN THE UK WITH THAT ENGINE AND TRIM COMBO) EVEN THOUGH I STILL LIVE ON A BUSY ROAD WITHOUT A DRIVE

There is somebody making stainless steel ones somewhere on ebay if i remember well they were about£65.

Try an ebay search, think he built to order.

Mild steel is £65 & stainless is £105

Mild steel http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROVER-75-1...EAAOSwG-1Wv2Q0

Stainless steel http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless-...gAAOSwmmxW2xq0

Would be easy to fabricate one up if you had the facilities & tools to do so.

Thanks for your replies.

I have seen how much they cost and quite frankly for what they are the prices being charged are a total rip off and that is why I asked for the dimensions so I can make one up (there really isn't anything difficult or fancy about them).

I admit I spend and waste a lot of money on my car (well, not in my eyes lol) but even I draw the line at paying over the odds for some little pieces of flat bar shaped and welded together.

Made my replacement ones out of aluminium strips..... Should last a bit a bit longer than normal steel Simple action of measuring and bending, and then "fine tuning" to fit

Aluminium should last longer than mild steel but I think I would prefer to use stainless because iirc aluminium (as most metals do) wants to return back to its natural state asap and is more susceptible to oxidation (same as copper does when it turns turquoise green). This of course isn't an overnight process so nothing to worry about lol.

I'll have my donor 75 tourer in a few days so I'll take the strap off that and measure it up.

Only reason I asked for the dimensions now was because I'm impatient and wanted to get cracking and make one up lol.

The red marks are were the dimensions were taken from Lee

That's obviously the bend in the centre, and that hasn't been bent anymore after it was removed from the car so the strange shape of it is original

Stop skitting my brush you, that cost £2 from the local tat shop that did. It's a quarter of the weight of my van wash brush so now my shoulders don't ache when doing my van
