Upgrading to win 10 will mean that about £1500-£2000 worth of software on my computer becomes redundant and I have to buy new versions (and some of it has no windows 10 support what so ever and can't be replaced!) Until I can afford £500 for a new version of cubase 8.5 I won't upgrade as Cubase 5 doesn't run in windows 10 very well! I run windows 7 ultimate on my studio computer and it serves me well! very well indeed that I haven't ever felt the need to upgrade and even though I would love to upgrade to the newer version of cubase, I have no real need!

So upgrading to win 10 is a pain, I'm glad I switched off my updates as that type of thing would ruin my computer and my work! Microsoft sucks in that respect, what do you think they are playing at!

Edit: Come to think of it I would lose more as I don't think they ever brought out another patch update for my mixing desk interface, So that would require me to buy a new mixing console as well! I know studios that are still running Commodore Amiga's, Atari ST's and windows 98 as they have to much to loose if they upgrade there systems! Money don't grown on trees and I think with this upgrade it seems a bit of a giant money making scheme by the software industry to me!

It's worth a go if you fancy it and it shouldn't mess up anything on your system though it will tell you if any of your programs are incompatible.

Once it is installed it an easy procedure to revert back.

I have Windows 10 and think it's fantastic. So much more modern and very fast. I like the layout and the ease of it a lot.

i dont know what people are frightened of, I think windows 10 is a fantastic OS, its fast, easy to use, better than windows 7 too, i have it on an old vista machine and it runs great, the machine in question was upgraded to 7, i updated to 10 last year and i love it, tweek it a bit for speed and you have a very good OS, just my opinion

Give Win10 chance and most will not revert back, no need to use tiles, right click the start button and you'll find all the familiar controls from command prompt, control panel, programmes and features, task manager and more.

I sympathise if you have expensive & incompatible software.
I reckon Window 7 was very good but 10 is even better.

Privacy? Windows 10 isn't 'free' like using Facebook isn't free nor using Gmail. Some people may not care about privacy or keeping control of their personal data, but I do. I will not switch to Windows 10 out of principle. Yes I know one can switch most of the spyware and key-logging off (and I'm running a development version of Windows 10 in a sandboxed VM for evaluation purposes) but that's not the point. It's MY computer, MY data.

I'm reading about a lot of complaints about the Win10 being forced on quite a few people running Win7.

Edit; I've been told they've now put the win10 update as a recommended update which most PC's automatically download & install unless you change it.

A friend of mine uses his Win7 PC as a recording studio & same as you has a lot of money invested in software. He doesn't connect to the internet on it anymore & downloads his projects onto a USB stick & he bought another PC with Win 10 on, He says it was the only cheap option for him.

From what I'm reading you cant get rid of the Win 10 upgrade, It's "baked into the IE security patch" and the recent security update patch 9th March has an Ad generator encrypted in it. http://www.infoworld.com/article/304...ty-update.html

They call it "telemetry" and promise they won't use the information for anything nefarious, but it does raise privacy concerns. It also means you don't have complete control over your own computer like you used to. With Windows 10, MS has the ability to remotely take over your computer and do pretty much whatever they want.....I like my Ubuntu It gives me zero grief
