Default Another Insurance Thread

This morning I received a renewal quote for my insurance - due in April - which has magically risen from £191.36 last time round to a whopping £304.42 if I let it auto renew - an increase of 58% (the robbing bar stewards). It's definitely time to flex my fingers and start hitting the comparison sites.

I really don’t EVER, EVER, ever! - get this $hite from my Independent Broker. An FCA approved guy who gets me a good deal each and every year and on the one occasion I needed to make a claim - was there to help me and was truly fantastic.

Why people use the comparison sites that charge huge sums to allow cr@p providers to rip people off EXACTLY as outlined above is beyond me.

And yet every month or two we get “another insurance thread” bleating on about how bad the various companies are.

Errrrrr! - Hello........

We all know that - why not find a good localnational specialist broker to work for YOU! - rather than pay a huge sum to a CGI Merkat whose sole aim is to rip you off?

I always assume mine will go up and have a look online each year. Just take it as a given you'll have to search around for quotes.

My Broker sends me the renewal quote from the current insurer plus usually two or three others too with one that they recommend - which is not necessarily the least expensive but itemising the reasons why this is worth considering.

They have NEVER sent me a renewal quote with an increase year on year the like of which that gets regularly posted on here - this thread being simply the latest.

Last year the cost went down by nearly £15 !!

I just ignore the renewal and it reminds me to search. All done in a few minutes, horses for courses.

Last year my wife's insurance (2006 VW Golf) went up by around 20%, so I went onto her insurance co website, put in all her/car details (except reg no.) and got a quote lower than even her previous year. Phoned up their renewal line, explained what I'd done, answered a few check questions to make sure it was like for like cover, and they matched the online quote with no argument.

Just done exactly the same again this year, and got her insurance down way below what she was paying in 2015 (no change in circumstances). I had a quick look at a couple of comparison sites and their lowest quotes were around the same figure, so have stayed with the same company.

Can't do any harm to try this, if other than the price you're reasonably happy with you existing provider.

I've just got my insurance sorted - £1255 for 8000 miles with general accident. My existing company was offering around £1500, and everywhere else was over £2000. One company quoted me £9500! Adrian flux said £2500, and the company they passed me on to to get another quote refused to quote me. Insurance is certainly not cheap, but it helps to shop around.

Jeez that seems steep - i would expect to pay that for a high end performance car - my 1.8 Turbo fully comp -albeit limited to 4,000 is 370 ish - from Adrian Flux - but Admiral were only £15 more.

It's because of my age and also where I live, on one hand I probably shouldn't have bought a rover, but it's actually not too much more to insure than a smaller engined car. My friend who's the same age as me has a 1.2 fiesta mk6 and is paying £900 for 3000 miles. I enjoy driving the Rover though so in my opinion it's worth the few hundred quid more.
