Smile Which Engine Would You Choose a V8 or Straight 6?

I love V8's just think Rover could of fitted a better V8 or even a straight 6.
Jaguar had a very good straight 6.
Which one would you choose if you were building your ideal car?

I like the straight six, but you can't beat the sound of the V8........
I suppose it would have to be the V8!!

V10, there is no better engine noise - wouldn't put it in a 75 or ZT though :P

Remember the straight six in a Triumph 2500 PI, great car in it's day and fantastic low down torque. Is there a reason why manufacturers moved away from straight six to V6. Guess V6 is cheaper, takes up less space etc.

All V6's I have driven including ours are so lacking in low down torque.

No real experience of V8's in anything!

You've never driven a Ford V8 Pilot then! Old sidevalve unit but would pull like a train at walking pace in top gear to it's 90 odd top speed.

Had the pleasure of driving my friend's BMW 430D M sport Coupe X Drive diesel yesterday. This is a straight 6 twin turbo and to be honest was a dream to drive, power delivery was spectacular as it produces over 500 torques, gear changing was seamless from the 8 speed auto. I love my V8 and its sound is spine tingling but if you want performance and economy you cant beat a modern Diesel. Think it delivers 258 bhp, 0 to 62 is 5.5 seconds, 50 mpg possable if driven respectfully. .. This is a 42k car think my V8 was around 29/30k back in 2003... The new mustang 5.0 V8 is 35k 0 to 62 in 4.8 and 22 mpg..
