Default Mirror control switched not working

Had the same problem myself with the mirror adjustment not working on my recently acquired 2000 Rover Club 75 Saloon. I was pleased to be able to split out the whole mirror/window switch assembly to find an excellently designed printed circuit board(as opposed to the junk found in the key fob!). I noticed that the contacts on the silicon switch pad that is used for windows and the left/right mirror selection were all of a carbon style contact. The eight for the mirror adjustment were all metal. These are the ones that oxidise slightly and form a poor contact. I used a cotton bud and contact cleaner and cleaned ALL the circuit board switch contact points - even though I knew the 'carbon facing' ones were all OK. I paid particular attention to the metal to metal contacts, however. When I replaced the switch unit it seems to work exactly as per spec., so job jobbed! I had bought a spare switch unit on Ebay which exhibited the same problem as I always like to have a spare unit anyway when I am about to break open one of those 'non-serviceable' units we have in our vehicles these days! Once the original switch unit was fixed I applied the same treatment to my spare, so if anyone needs a switching unit that works, let me know!

Got my mirrors working today too ! 15 minute job with some cotton buds soaked in brake cleaner. Since I got car the only mirror buttons on the switch that worked were the left ones. All buttons working now.
Strange though, all the contacts looked clean before I cleaned them.
Wish all jobs on the Tourer were that quick/cheap !

My "essential" switch cleaning tools:-

The split hooked tool fits the lugs perfectly! Although some have said that the circuit cleaning pen may be too abrasive!

I just noticed my electric mirrors not working properly today, wondered if it was a pain to fix and then this thread popped up to reassure me.

It shouldn't be a problem, I have used one for years to recondition ancient computer keyboards game console controllers with much success and they work in exactly the same way.

Just dug out my kit to repair an Amiga motherboard that's suffered slightly from battery leakage and found I need a new pen because I wore it out on my megadrive controllers Need some solder mask paint anyway so will order it all together.
