Tought myself in three wheeler Reliant, Had three lessons with driving instructor so that I would have a car to take the test in. First lesson in a Datsun went great
second lesson the instructor came in a Fiat I think it was, I could not find the gears in that thing, I demanded the Datsun for my test. Passed first time.1978.

1968 - in an 850cc Austin Mini - the gear lever was so sloppy that 2nd meant pushing it halfway across the passenger's seat, whereas third and top necessitated pulling it back to nigh on the middle of the driver's seat.
I took my test in Redcar, which at that time had only one set of treffic lights to negotiate
Did my learning in Dad's A55 Cambridge - radial tyres and no power steering - took muscles like a weightlifter to get it round corners.

Passed my test with BSM in a Triumph Herald way back in 1966.
I think the lessons were 21 shillings each.

Passed my test in the summer of 1973, a few months before my 18th birthday. I took it in a 1962, two door Ford Cortina 1200 deluxe - the first car my parents ever owned - and I can stiil remember its registration number which was 389 FCG.

Ford 100e van. Reg no:- XOM 611.Passed in 1964. Thought I had failed on the reversing round a corner. Also thought I had failed on the three point turn. Kept putting it in second I think instead of reverse, but examiner said I did not get flustered so he would forget about it.Told me not to put the learner plates down the drain as they had got complaints from the water authorities about the amount of L plates down it.
