OK an update...

Fully charged battery

Oil light ON

Glow plug light comes on then off then back on again then off after a short while when you turn the ignition on.

Engine check light comes on then off and starts to go on and off when you crank the engine.

A relay clicks on and off when cranking the engine, it's the 2nd one from the right at the bottom of the fuse board.

Using easy start engine runs briefly and rev counter works.

Any more ideas as to the problem? If not I will have to arrange for the car to be transported over to Bexhill.

Thanks

Smile CDTi Non Start

You seem to have the same problem I had. It was the result of a flooded Plenum. The ECU was thankfully fine but the glow plug relay which lives next to it was completely wrecked. I replaced it and she fired up straight away.

I have now done the drain tube inspection mod by the way!!

I have inspected the plenum and all is dry, where is the glow plug relay situated so I can test it?

Thanks

Go and inspect the plenum again - it sits in there with the ECM.

Although it is called the glow plug relay it is also an ECU in it's own right. The engines will happily start without using the glow plugs in our climate, but a faulty glow plug relay can cause problems.

I think I will get it dropped over to you. I will drop you a line tomorrow to have a chat about it.

Thanks for all the replies and advice.

Mine had all these symptoms in January (except mine wouldn't run at all with Easy Start). Even a T4 session from Big Russ showed up nothing. By complete chance, just before giving up, Russ found it to be a bad connection to the bottom of the fuse box, situated just in front of the battery.
My advice is, take off the fuse box (2 screws, a bolt, a positive wire and 7 plugs) clean all the connections and re-assemble). 20 minute job. If someone had given me that advice on New Years Day it would have saved me £400 in garage bills and car hire. I hope it works for you. Good luck.

I'll second Robert's advice here, and further more have a look HERE because the symptoms you describe fit the fault finding process you will find in the link.

Best of luck
