Word of warning that's not mentioned here:-

I really had to hammer the bejesus out of the old one to separate the aluminium cylinder from the teardrop. I you haven't got a vice and a big hammer and and enthusiasm for mindless destruction then leave well alone! I had to take a run up and the cylinder was far from round when finished. That said it only took an hour or so.

End results are good though, no more stutter/judder on pull away. Yay.

In your last picture, the red axle stand.

If you use a thin piece of wood between the stand and the car body it will never slip.

Metal to metal isn't a good idea where you have placed the stand.

Arhh that was before i fitted the jacking pads and i always put the spare wheel under the sill just to make sure

Wow that was a mamoth time i did one of these recently 50mins and that was having a few coffee breaks i can get the middle out in 3-5mins and fit it in 15-20 mins i hammer the middle out over our wrought iron gate working round the edge Arctic.

Unless the diesel is mounted differently its much easier and safer just to drive it up on ramps.

I used a G clamp to help press in the new one.

I don't either, but a thick plank of wood placed in front of each ramp, then driving the car onto that on the way to the ramp will raise it enough to climb the rest of the slope.
