Default New problem for me.

A few days ago I fitted a HUD to my windscreen to show coolant temp, among other things. Today I saw coolant temp go to 117c . I thought that will be wrong and glanced down to look at the dash gauge. I was horrified to see it at the 11 o'clock mark.
I have checked coolant level OK, oil level OK, high speed fan roaring like a banshee, ok
I am beginning to suspect the thermostat.
I have Kaisers metal housing fitted with the lower opening temp.
From the windscreen gauge it appears to open around 93c and drops a few degrees, then continues to rise again 100+ drops a bit then goes on up.
Waiting for the mechanic now,
Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

when this happened on mine it was a large air bubble in the coolant.
After trying all sorts to sort it out I followed advice on here and refilled the system from the expansion tank with the bleed nut open and the engine running. It flows round slow enough to put the bleed nut back and switch off before the expansion tank gets too low.

Could the HUD you fitted be effecting the feedback from the thermostat?? If you disconnect it, does the ipk dial return to normal..??

No that's not it, no change went HUD gauge disconnected.
But did find when dash gauge was showing normal and HUD gauge showing 107c radiator top hose was almost cold.

If you had really reached 107 would not the high speed fan kick in - on the 1.8t its would kick in at 105 and stay on until back to 92 -not sure about the V6 but i assume the same principle applies. Is your HUD faulty - have you run the onboard temp display (19/07) to compare the two. When i had a Hans Gauge fitted i did this to ensure they both were giving the same output - which they did.

Thanks I forgot about that one. But as the radiator top hose was almost cold I think that may be the problem.
