I don't know what the ID requirement will be for the trip but I've just read that if needed it would be prudent to submit a passport application by Friday for unmentionable reasons here, lol.

I was prompted to look when about 45 mins ago the passport office emailed me advising of approval, printing and the posting of a passport that I applied to renew a couple of weeks back. I had to send my old one to Belfast and I am quite impressed how prompt and smooth the process has been so far. They certainly work late as the time given for dispatch in their email was 10.17 pm tonight.

Don't forget breakdown cover, the RAC will cover you even if you are not a member. Some of the policies don't cover repatriation of your vehicle so make sure you don't skimp on this.

Does your car have a spare wheel/tyre in good condition? You will be surprised how much they can charge for a tyre if you need one. A work mate last year got charged over £400 for a tyre in France on a Saturday as he was pulled over for driving with a space saver on the motorway.

You HAVE to use a Space Saver if you get a puncture on a motor way.

Saturday might put the price up as it will just about anywhere.--

I live in France full time and tyres are no dearer than in GB.

PS.--A green card is a must as most insurance companies only give you third party unless you ask.

Thumbs up

Well, that's my new passport received today so ready for the off (maybe) later in the year. Click

Very pleased with the online passport service, not so sure about my photo in the passport though. One of the many I've seen that appear to be lacking a "WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE" subject heading.

If you're going for a holiday in a hot air balloon make sure you have plenty of gas cylinders. ( Water wings might be handy too. )

( Most folk have a picture of a beach.--Lol. )

Not so sure about balloons, maybe something like a Pipistrel Sinus Flex as shown in this youtube video.
