Heated windscreen washer jets
Are the windscreen washer jets on our cars all heated? If not, how do you know if yours are heated? Do some wires run to the washer jets under the bonnet?
Thanks, Rick |

look at the left hand side of the bonnet as you are looking into the engine bay, you will see the washer hose, if there are some green wires taped to it, you will have the wiring in place.
I have a set for sale if you don't have them |

They were fitted as standard to cars that had powerwash fitted, xenon or not.
The majority of cars have the plug on the loom for connecting to, but it is behind the offside indicator, so worth pulling the arch liner back to see if you have it before any serious work |

Mine didn't have headlamp washers as standard, but did have the loom for it so was able to retrofit it. Hopefully the looms there for the heated jet washers too if I haven't got them already.
Ah nice one, I'll have a look behind there got to pull it back anyway as I need to replace my crank pulley. Cheers |

I've fitted these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-1-SERI...-/191651584798
Did not get them from here but from a local breaker. 6166 7110851 is the BMW number. I believe they are also fitted to Z4, X3 as well and probably others. God bless BMW for not changing the connectors. Something positive to say about them. They are plug and play, then fan spray (not 2 dribbles). Luverly. The washer outlet is the other way round - points toward the windscreen. But you just have to mod the washer pipe by moving it a few cm's up and then swivelling the 90 degree connectors the other way round. May take all of 10 seconds. |

I wouldnt bother.
They are pretty much utterly useless.... Driving in Austria/Germany in winter, and JUST when you need them (on the autobahn) in sub zero conditions even with glycol in the washer bottle they still froze up for me. Anything under -5 onwards and the wind chill renders them useless. This was with brand new ones too, so I know they were working! Ok admittedly Austria was a little colder (-5>-10) than the UK, but it left me rather annoyed. |

They are designed to help prevent the water from freezing in the actual jets (the washer fluid that is added can evaporate from the opening leaving plain water that can freeze and block the jet).
They cannot help if the concentration of washer fluid in the rest of the system is not strong enough. Last edited by raykay; 24th September 2015 at 22:00.. |

Thanks Andrew, very useful info yet again So how do those washers work, they spray right across the screen rather than in 2 spots? I think I will order a set of those. Rich - I had a look at the washer pipe going up the bonnet on the left side, no wires going with it so I don't have heated washer jets at the moment. Will have to check behind the driver's wheel arch to see if I can find any wiring for them. My dads 04 plate MKII connoisseur SE doesn't have heated washer jets either. |
