Vis valve motors - which one or both ?
Hi all,
My brothers 2.5 V6 Rover 75, is making rattling noises from the back of the engine, the noise is coming from a square box to the left of the inlet manifold, We have come to the conclusion (with the help of this fantastic website) that its the vis valve motors that need changing. We bought the pair of them £53.00ea + Vat from rover dealer. The service manager said its probably only one of them thats gone, but which one? (they quoted £4-600 for the same job.) He said the only way to tell is to replace one and if the noise goes, bring the other back for a refund, however if you try both, they wont give a refund ? So can we identify which one? Also the square box makes a noise like a pump? when the engine is switched off, this carries on for anything up to 1/2 hour or even longer. Can anybody help, and is this a difficult job to replace these motors ? any help will be greatly appreciated... Ray. |

Hi Ray and welcome to the club!
The besy way to tell is to take one of the motor boxes off and gently prise it apart. If the solder on the PCB is cracked then thats the culprit. You may even be able to rescue the old VIS motor with a soldering iron. If your first box looks ok, move onto the second one. Full instructions here.... http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...read.php?t=140 Hope this helps! |

I'd be inclined to replace both as they are likely to wear at the same rate if not fail at the same time. Just my 2d worth.
