I believe they did, in an effort to save money with project drive. To some extent, it's how you drive it. In normal acceleration, I rarely take mine past 2,500rpm before changing up - no need, even with the original 114PS tune. Once up to 30mph, I barely notice the engine noise, and cruising on the motorway, the tyre noise is the most intrusive element, with the minimal wind noise next. Turning on the radio to a civilised level drowns out all of it. At 80mph, it's the quietest car I've driven. It's a 2001 Longbridge car, pre-Project Drive.

Thumbs up Very quiet

Two of my 75's are Diesel and an absolute delight to drive - smooth , quiet and just roll down the road. Chap over the road has a Jag diesel and agrees it sounds like a tractor. Another plus for our cars!

Having now collected the diesel last Wednesday, we’ve done over 500 miles in it already having completed a tour of Wales.
Smooth, quiet and very economical. 160 remap was superb.
