Anybody heard of 'panic locking' on our cars?
As titled, has anybody heard of 'panic locking' on our cars?
I have a paper copy of the Rover 75 Workshop Manual: Description and Operation, dated 1999, publication RCL0331ENG. In the Description part of the Security section, on page 86-5-8, it describes the master locking locking switch and also says this: Quote:
Thanks, Bolin.

I've never heard of the function. But my first thought on the matter is the master switch will lock all the doors at the single press of the button.

Maybe some kind of alerting that would sound the alarm if the lock button is pressed repeatedly...?

I have RCL0309 ENG published 2000 and the pages only run from 86-5-1 to 86-5-4.
As the pages are not shown in the index either its possible to assume that the entries regarding "panic locking" were dropped. Doesn't make us any the wiser but the Rover manual I have was published under BMW ownership, so it's not anything to do with the transfer to MG Rover. Dave T |

There are so many things anyway that were dropped during the pre-production phase that I wouldn't be surprised this to be one of them. The diesel autobox being disengaged when idle, for instance, comes to mind.

Thanks guys.
I assume the feature was never present, hence no mention elsewhere..... The section of information that is from first describes how the master switch locks and unlocks the doors, so the 'panic locking' must be something more than that. Maybe holding (or pressing repeatedly as Scoubix suggests) the button would have sounded the horn/siren? Just a guess.

"Panic Locking" is what it says. The ability to lock all doors at the touch of a button.
The function to be able to lock all doors at the touch of a button was not common on cars fifteen years ago. |

HI Dave,
Some of the "75`s" were designated for Government Stock ie, MP`s and Lord Mayor`s. Is it possible that "Panic Locking" were fitted to these vehicles Only? Pete. |

I'm tempted to go and try holding/pressing repeatedly the master switch but I don't want to upset the neighbours at this time of night!
