Default Royal mail

Just a thought now that the Royal Mail has gone private are they still entitle to have the crown on their vehicles I can remember when the GPO went over to BT they had to remove the crown

Derek
When the GPO split, the postal side became Royal Mail,The telephone side became Post Office Telecommunications and the counters became Post Office Counters.

All 3 carried the Royal Crown logo,Post Office telecommunications later became British Telecom BT after the sell off .

I did read in the Royal Mail Newspaper (which I get because I am a Post Office Pensioner) it stated that the new company would be still be called Royal Mail and carry the Royal logo, and also continue to have the King/Queen on the stamps.

Yeah Steve I can remember the GPO vans were painted green and their vehicles were not road taxed but when they went private they had to tax their vehicles and remove the crown this was late 50's or early 60's

The crown was on the Yellow Telephone Fleet up until 1981 when BT was officially launched, even then most of the vans remained yellow with the new BT logos added until they changed to what we have today.

I thought that Royal Mail is going to have to pay VAT in the future, but doesn't at the moment?

Wonder what that will do to postage prices (and the share price)?

It used to be that as they were providing a universal service think Highlands and Islands that they were exempt VAT. I've seen something in the financial pages that as soon as this stops or the service is reduced then several delivery courier firms are ready to challenge this in court.

But yes 20% margin over your competition must be very nice!

Prices of postage is shocking now. I sold a few things in the for sale section and was surprised at how expensive it was to send, even 2nd class.

Doesn't fill you full of confidence when the teller at the post office says, "your package isn't guaranteed to get there as it will more than likely get lost in transit"

Also the website prices are lower than the actual post office prices.
