Vvc inlet manifold swap. Struggling!!!
Hi folks. I am missing something obvious.
Just done the inlet manifold swap, plastic for the metal vvc one. Most of it was trouble free (initially forgot to put the long plastic shim back on the injectors doh!). I need to pop out tomorrow and pick up the fixings for the maf to manifold(any ideas what size, possibly m4) so that shouldn't be too hard. The only issue I have had is putting the new manifold on. Everything lines up perfectly and pushes into place. Getting the securing nuts on however is a right royal pain in the ****. Top ones aren't too bad but the ones under the manifold are a nightmare. The metal manifold is so neat to the nuts that you can't put the old nuts back on as they are flanged and get stuck. Decided to put a standard stainless nut on with an anti rattle washer which fits, however you can't get a socket on due to the clearance between the nut and the manifold ( virtually non existent). Managed to nip up most of them, however the one nearest the battery has defeated me. None of the ones under the manifold have been torqued correctly (done them in order but just as tight as I can). Am I missing something? Grateful of any insight into this. Regards John

You're not missing something, no. I remember when I changed mine, it was exactly the same. Had to use standard nuts for the bottom set, and then tightened them up with an open ended spanner. I jacked the car up though, and slid underneath and reached up through to the nuts to do them up. A right pain to attempt from above.

I used some bolts, the same ones that bolt the manifold together on the bottom ones as they have a 10mm head on them and can be tightened easily

The black one or the silver one? |

It is the clearance between the nut and the manifold. There isn't any.
