Default Aurora (northern lights) 27/02/14

I went up Cresswell the other night as the Aurora was putting on a show, first good one in 18 months. It was cold and I didnt get in till 3am but it was worth it.

STUNNING - I think I'm just a bit too far inland, and behind the hills, to have seen them. I have seen some photos taken at Saltburn, looking Northwards, and they are pretty good - but not a patch on yours

Lovely pictures.
What camera settings did you use for them?

Fantastic photos. A rare opportunity, something I would like to see before I kick the bucket. Thanks for sharing them

Thanks for the comments. I use a Canon 350D in RAW, iso 800, 60 second exposure at f5.6. The Aurora happen quite offten but its normally cloudy but when you get a clear night its amazing. I use an app on my phone called Autora Notifier which alerts my when they are active. Its a free app and very good.

Thanks Grahame, I'll have a look at the app. I think I may be in the wrong part of the country though. May be worth a drive out.
