Very sorry to hear that Bud. Been there. Years ago I had the rear quarter panel kicked in. On my first car I had the rear windscreen and side window smashed courtesy of some feral neighbours kids (teenagers) with catapults.

The reason this is getting worse, is because, they can do it, and they get away with it. No parenting has been mentioned, and that is the other reason. Some of the more responsible people where I live, are patrolling the streets until the early hours of the morning. So far there have been no cars pinched since this started. We have even had car jacking take place late afternoon. Glad they have never picked on my car, yet, because I would end up in nick. We have already intimated to the police that since they cannot stop it, we will if we can.

Spot on Mark .... national service is THE answer, get them in when they're young and teach them discipline / respect / and above all ... a trade so they can be productive and contributing members of society when out in civi street.

Had some kid slap the boot of my car when I was waiting at a junction. No damage, but I reckon the reason they do it is because if they get caught, which they're probably not going to be, what punishment do they get? A slap on the wrist, if that.

Some little sheeite was repeatedly doing this to cars down my road... we fought them, a 16 yr old was snapping them off while his older 20 plus yr mates laughed... about 10 neighbours cornered them and the old bill were called... the 16 yr old was carted off as he also had a 14 inch kitchen knife tucked down his jacket.....
Worse thing is I saw him sitting in a barbers shop 48 hour later...

What's the point...??
