Default who was the German fighter pilot?

Does any one know, did anyone ever know?

I seem to recall that an Allied bomber on its way back to the UK was intercepted by a lone German fighter.
The German pilot on seeing the state of the bomber, badly shot up and unable to return fire or take evasive action did not engage but
"nudged" the bomber away from an area guarded by flack.

Was the German pilot ever known, did he survive the war?

Is this the incident you are referring to?

thank you stevestrat, I really appreciate the link.
I had wondered about this for years and am really pleased to know what happened and that the pilots survived and met.

It is interesting, that once enemies at war, people can become very good friends.

thank you once again
