Well I filled up today and it worked out at 29.7mpg. Which I think is pretty good for a 14 year old car, with nearly 160,000 miles on the clock, towing a caravan weighing 1450kg, plus a full awning, beach stuff, bedding, clothes, and a couple of spare cans of diesel as well as a beach trolley, BBQ, and camping cupboard!
I have to say I really do love my ZT, and it always impresses me. Didn't struggle on any of the hills, happily sat at 60mph on the motorway, was comfortable enough for me to drive for just over 5 hours/270 miles without stopping (quite literally, pulled away after hitching up, and 'cos I left so early I didn't have to actually stop at any junctions at all, until I decided to pull into a layby to wait until I could check in). Plus not only did it not look at all old or dated amongst the other cars on site, it was (in my opinion) the best looking car there. |

I hope you all let your diesels idle for a while after towing and don't just switch the engine off. I even open the bonnet to let the heat out

Did about 1100 miles in 8 days down to Cornwall. The old girl didn't miss a beat, on way back saw a number of breakdowns and a caravan that shed a tyre. Breakdowns seem to involve mainly german cars!

We went from Darlington to dawlish in a 75 diesel manual 03 reg .it was pulling a trailer tent so hasn't got the wind resistance that a caravan has.car has a 160 upgrade thanks to Brian. Filled up with super diesel and left at 4 in the morning to miss most of the traffic. Motorway from Darlington to Exeter then about 12 Miles on a class road to dawlish.keeping at 60 to 65 on motor a total of 350 miles.fuel gauge showed had used half a tank.so just over 30.pounds in fuel for 350 miles pulling trailer tent in a big comfortable car.I am over the moon with this.I'm sure the 160 upgrade made a big difference. As the motorway hills did not slow car .in fact had to ease off a bit.as I said it is a trailer tent not a caravan so will be getting more mpg.but would recommend a 160 if you are towing anything.
