Default Recovered for the first time in 12yr :(

Wife's first day of a weeks holiday this year so said I would take her out.
As usual before setting off check oil, water, tyres etc. all fine.
50 mile into journey I could smell burning oil. "somebody has a problem" I thought. Carried on and by this time it was time to climb Sutton Bank and stop at the top to break our journey. Up the bank and into the National trust Car park. Stopped and was engulfed in a cloud of smoke and a strong smell of burning oil.
Checked the dipstick, no oil showing
I always carry 2ltr of oil so immediately added that and the oil showed again on the dipstick, exhaust is covered in oil but engine sounds sweet as a nut.
Not taking any chances phoned recovery and got recovered home.
At least my old bus did not have the indignity of having to be winched onto the flat bed. Drove up there under his own steam and even drove into the drive at home.
Recovery guy " Headgasket?"
Well tomorrow the undertray will be off , any bets?

I think I'd look at the oil cooler first.

Sorry to hear about this Dave.

I've no experience of the V6 and hope it's simple, easy and cheap to sort .

All the best,

Andy.

hope its not what my v6 had. severed oil cooler to pump oil pipe. when mine happened it dumped the whole sumpload on the motorway before i had time to pull over after suddenly spotting my oil light illuminate. hopefully if it is the same problem you may have escaped with just a leaking pipe crimp. i had a hydraulic hose made up that now bipasses the cooler at the pump end. no more worries of a repeat and also it gives more pressure and volume of oil that the pump pushes out and does not inhibit the pump whatso ever. whatever your problem turns out to be wish you all the best. xsport.

Once in a while one has to test the ability of one's recovery planning - hopefully, it'll be one of those surprisingly simple solutions.

Sorry to hear that Mate, glad to hear Maz is still running ok, she sounded really good last week.

Hopefully whatever is causing the oil leak can be fixed without too much issue.
If there's anything you need give me a shout if I've got it I can drop it off for you

Russ
