Finding the Electrical Gremlin - Lights, Radio, Windows, Heating
Hi all,
my dadīs MK1 Saloon Rover 75 has some technical issues that needs some expert advice… I hope you can help. SOMETIMES when the car gets started, the board computer shows the „light defect“ symbol. The symbol indicates that all brake lights are active; all light bulbs are working fine. SOMETIMES, in addition to the light defect symbol (this is quite rare), the windscreen wipers are activated. For the time the light defect symbol is active – this can be anything between 1-5 seconds up to minutes – the AC, electrical windows and radio are not working. Once the light defect symbol disappears, all functions are back to normal. All fuses (especially 11) are OK and all relais have been tested by switching them from another working Rover 75. There are a few other things not quite right with the car but I assume these have nothing to do with the initial problem: - Both heated seats do not work. Green light on the switch panel works OK. There is not power on the heated seats cable going to the passenger seat (RHS). - The heating does only work on the driver's side (LHS), no warm air on the passengerīs side (RHS). The actuator fort he heating seems to work though 1. Are all issues linked? 2. Could it be a control unit? 3. Is it possible to exchange control units with a working alternative? 4. Is a T4 session required? 5. Since the car is located in Germany, could that be done via mail? Thank you very much in advance for your time and effort. It is much appreciated! This is probably unrelated to the electrical gremlins you are suffering as it's a relatively common issue for the heater matrix to block with sediment. I assume it's a left hand drive car as it's normally the passenger side that is affected.

Hi Mats,
Yes; they're all on the K-bus. You'll need to disconnect the K-bus connection to each of the ECUs affected until you find out which one is causing it. If you have access to T4 you could try that. Simon

Pete,
It's actually the driver's side (LHS) that has heating. I got slightly confused. Simon, How many K-bus connections/ECUs are there to be checked and where would I find them and identify the cables? Is it the simple matter of disconnecting one K-Bus connection at a time and start the car and see what happens? Cheers Mats |
