To fix this issue properly the headlining has to be removed, the material peeled off and then all the old glue removed before reapplying new glue and fitting new cloth, you can’t spray anything through the material as it needs to go onto the polyurethane headllining material rather than the cloth itself.

Its an awkward job that you cannot cut corners on unfortunately.

However replacing the headlining is not the problem job you might think as long as you go about it methodically. The only tools you need are a screwdriver, a socket and a trim puller. If you can get an assistant to help with getting the old one out of the car and wriggling the new one in it's even easier (although even this isn't essential).

I did one recently and it took about 4 hours including breaks for fags and tea.
Did you recover the headlining, or re-attach the old one?

I got a new second hand one. The only slight issue was that the connectors on the loom attached to the new one weren't compatible with the ones in place on the car so I had to swap them over, but that only takes a few minutes.
