Default Just had my ZT rear ended :(

What I've always feared happening has happened tonight got rear ended at a roundabout by a complete d*ck floorin it up the sliproad behind me.

Im ok, the ZT's wounded but could have been a lot worse. Only damage to my rear bumper but my drivers side tail pipe is dented.

What id just like to ask is, where should i go from here. I personally dont want to go through insurance as it'll just get written off and at 201k miles i doubt i'd get much of a payout for it. + i really dont need all the headache of all that right now.

I know a guy at a local spray shop who can spray pearlescent paints, he's specialises in tvrs and has sprayed quite a few of our monogram cars before including a bonnet and bumper for another typhoon. So im going to pop over to see him tomorrow to get a quote.

I said that id much rather get it fixed privately rather than go through insurance, explained all the reasons and he was ok with it. But just worried that we wont pay out when he sees the quote, based on previous quotes i've had from the sprayer i recon it'll be anywhere between £800-£1400.

So what should i do, go down the privately settle and fix route and hope it works out or go down insurance route and have to deal with all that headache?

Other reason i dont want to go through insurance is it'll just knock my renewal up even though it werent my fault!

Any advise would be much appreciated. I have pics of the accident scene, his car and mine + reg plate + his number.

He's at fault surely usually always the driver who runs into the back of another is at fault. Could have him for driving without due care etc I would inform your insurers for a claim against him, provided he has insurance of course

What a PAIN !!!!!

When I had my 45 stolen, I informed the insurance company. When it was found with a dent in the boot lid I decided to have it repaired myself and not through the insurance. So I phoned then up to tell them that.

Come renewal time I found that I had lost a large chunk of my NCB as my car had been stolen.

It seems that even if you cancel the claim they still count it as a claim.

I would get a written quote - so he does not think your trying it on - as quickly as possible, then judge his reaction when you hit him with the figures.

Be careful involving the insurance companies or it will end up as a CAT C or D write off.

Yes he's at fault. I was stopped when he hit me about 10 seconds after id stopped.

Problem with going through insurance is theyl'l just write it off. And i think due to the age and high mileage the payout most likely wouldnt cover the cost of the repair because it's typhoon. If ir was a standard colour it would have been a simple replacement bumper fix.

you need to tell your insurance company but I don't think you have to claim.
if other person agrees to pay make sure they arrange this with garage so you don't have to pay and then have trouble getting money back.

Rick I’ve just been thro this and my car was written off which I was delighted about. Ring the insurance company and explain you don’t want a total loss and give them a quote for repairs.
LV rang me and said don’t worry we will give you a courtesy car etc and pay injury compensation but I had already signed up to a claims company. You may need to wait a few days as it takes time for them to get paperwork in order.
Not the end of the world Rik👍

Had my 75 tourer 170k "written off" 2 yrs ago went direct to their insurance and ended up with £1200 after they had deducted £136 scrap and let me keep it!

OK it's a cat c write off but that only affects selling it and if you have pics of what happened won't hit it much.

Told my insurance when it was sorted and they weren't bothered no claim off them no affects on NCB and no hike in next premium.

So I would go to his insurance company and see what they offer ,

My biggest annoyance it was a dented wing and door too expensive too repair I said good 2nd hand parts would be fine no deal. Got the parts for £40 from a member here perfect fit and match. No wonder premiums go up !

Only other draw back was had to re MOT moved from October to January

Rick, you don’t notify your insurance company. You notify the other persons! If you’re going down the insurance route. For that kind of money, if the person isn’t going to pay, you have no insurance but to claim on his insurance. When my Typhoon was rear ended last year, I went through the other girls insurance. Yes, it had a CAT C against it, but it didn’t affect my own premium. And, if it is written off, you can buy it back. Also, don’t let the car out of your sight so don’t let the, take the car with them. You drive it to wherever they assess it and stay there and then you drive it back home. An, anyway, the CAT C or CAT D if you get one would only matter if you were selling the car on. Judging by your love for your car, I can’t see you moving it on anytime soon...
