Default Gear change cables on a KV6

Dear All
Has anyone had experience of changing the gear change cables on a KV6? Is it a DIY job? Is there a 'how to' somewhere?
I look forward to hearing from you,
Bob

I have no experience but my dealings with the manuals I have touched revolves around a spring clip holding the outer cable near the gear box.
This is fragile and can snap. Last time I checked the spring clip was not available on its own, not sure if it is now.
