Tick over
I have just had a full service, head gasket replacement and cambelt change. My tick over seems a bit 'lumpy' and the rev counter shows a slight fluctuation (worse with air con on) is this normal? If not I can take it back to the garage, thanks, John.

Was the HG replacement as a result of failure? I recall that when I had HGF in January with the ZTT the garage said the car has to "re-learn" settings and needs time to settle after all the work. They ultimately resorted to setting it up on the T4. However that didn't solve the problem of rough tick over with the engine cuttting out briefly from cold. Nothing showed up on the diagnostics and by a process of elimination the garage found the tappets at fault. New tappets and all sorted.

Was the head skimmed? If skimmed more than once or a lot has had to be removed in one go, this can result in a slight fluctuation on tickover
