Am I missing a trick here?

I'm hoping to check the motor and if its brushes, get them replaced.

Many thanks, Rich.
On the how to it shows how to cut away the cowling around the a/c hoses, this enables you to remove the cowling and fan without disturbing the a/con.I didnt on mine as I was renewing the fan with a Revotec from Julkes.

OK, thanks. I assume cutting it wont really effect the strength of the plastic casing that much?

Rich,

It is possible to remove the fan motor without cutting around the air conditioning pipes because I've done it and I think Arctic has too. Don't ask me how though. It was many years ago.

Right got the blighter out ... will open it up later and see what is inside. Hoping I can avoid the £180+ fee for a new fan

May well put hex nuts back to hold the motor to the casing, the torx screws were a bit touch and go.

Cut a clearance around the aircon pipes so the fan frame comes away and can be lifted away. The plastic surround is soft enough to cut using a short hacksaw blade or a hot knife.
You'll find some photos/HowTo if you use the search system.

Take care if you're using a vice. The motor's permanent magnets are of composite construction and are glued to the inside of the motor casing. They are brittle.

If you have time, Arctic has posted some brilliant pictures of each stage of the repair process.
