Foam inserts are a water trap on the early bullet style mirror. Clean the foam and dry thoroughly and allow to dry. Then smear some Vaseline on them to stop further water penetration.

What pab says - although I used black gutter sealant, it was the beefiest black sealant I had to hand.
Just curious, how could these cause wind noise? Are they sticking out from under the mirror stanchion?

I know this is dragging up an old thread but I have been hunting for a while now due to the wind noise whilst driving on the motorway.
I put some gaffa tape on things I thought could be the culprit and it seems to be around the mirrors where the seal is. I don't think the wind is coming in to the car itself, but more of a 'wind-slipstream-disruption' noise (can't think of another way to put it), I also found it is nosier on the passenger side. I am going to try some sealant next time I have the door panels off and let you know |
