I have two CDTis, both fully serviced, one has the EGR bypass but the other does not. The former is definitely quicker than the latter.

Not conclusive that though is it?
I used to deliver lot's of these when brand new.

Some were quicker than others back then

Now that’s something I really don’t get. I can understand 10-year-old cars performing differently, for all sorts of reasons. But when I see people here claiming 55mpg for automatics, when I can’t get more than 45 driving VERY carefully in my manual diesel (which T4 says is all working as it should), I do wonder if there were all sorts of undocumented production differences… or alternatively, can I please have some of the tablets the 55mpg owners were taking?

I didn't say it was conclusive, that's putting words into another's mouth.

I said what I said.

It is definitely the case that one is faster than the other. It is a little bit of fact and a little bit of evidence one way or another.

I will be changing the bypass soon enough, I had previously cleaned the EGR valve thoroughly. When it is changed, if the difference is marked I will report it here.

When you come back with your report is it possible, please, to give us something like a 0 to 60 time for each car to help the rest of us make up our minds to make the change or not ???

Thanks in advance,--

Production tolerances. Some will come off the line with everything spot on, ideal - some will come off the line with everything at minimum tolerance. Most will be somewhere in between the two extremes, some things ideal/ some things less than ideal.

Which is why T4 accepts a range of values as anywhere within is acceptable.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

The only way to tell is a before and after rolling road test.

Don't believe the 'hype' Auto diesels in decent tune should do about 36mpg average at this time of year, in warmer months you should get about 38. In the summer if are on a straight flat bit of motorway (and can be bothered to reset the IPK) you can get about 45 mpg. The people getting 55mpg either haven't calibrated the IPK properly or are 'drafting' lorries and/or keeping the rpm below 2000 - no thanks, you save no money really but

Mine on the IPK on one single trip to the East coast showed over 60mpg. Well above normal and I have not managed close to it yet and I have no idea why it managed it. There was no following wind and it came close to similar on the way back. IPK isn't brim to brim, but it noramally gives a sensible value.
