Out of interest did you change the gaskets when you took the manifold off, was thinking of removing mine (if only to get a bracket made for the vacuum thingy hiding underneath) and wondered if new gaskets were necessary.

I didn't change mine, and everything is still OK. It may be worth giving them a quick bit of silicone spray to help keep the rubber supple.

It sits on the side of the manifold, on the left of the engine as you look at it. A bit fiddly to get to but not that bad (you'll need to take the engine cover off). It took me longer to retrieve the socket I dropped down the back of the HP pump than removing and cleaning the MAP sensor. There's a little gap right behind the pump that a socket fits into nicely that you can't get to with your hand or magnetic pick-up tool.

What do you clean the egr with? Mine is stuck open, according to T4 report.

Hi Mike.
You can reuse the gaskets as I have found them to be hard wearing, but please do not contaminate with silicone spray or any other kind of substance just, if you feel you need to clean them then use a damp cloth, in your case if you are only moving the manifold to get to another part of the engine leave the gaskets in place. same here, just pull the vacuum pipe, if in the future you or a new owner needs it put back, just push the pipe on again..

Just to reiterate....

If you clean and refit and leave working, you will be faced with the regular cleaning of the EGR, manifold, possibly the MAP and maybe the inlets if they are coked up. If you disable or fit a bypass, you will have none of these issues, but emissions will be slightly worse overall, but left working as designed without any cleaning the emissions can be very much worse.

The MAP sensor is easily damaged. It is unlikely to be obstructed, but if you must clean it, there is a small tunnel or hole at its end through which it is designed to breath. If that hole is open, likely it is fine. Push anything too far down that hole and you can be certain you will damage the sensor.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Can I use IPA to clean the egr? That's Isopropyl alcohol, not beer lol
