Default Seat bolts

Haynes states that I should renew the seat securing bolts when I replace the front seat. In practice is this really done cheers Bill

The short answer is NO I have never know anyone replace the seats bolts, & lots I mean lots of seats have been changed at our local meets. only change them if the torx head as been chewed up which would make it hard to remove in the future.

I asked the local MGR main dealer (when there was one) exactly the same question. They said no, they never renewed the bolts.

I could perhaps think the seat bolts may need replacing in the event of a crash, and only if a bum was on a seat at the time, but the impact of such a crash would render the car a wreck anyway. So I really cant imagine apart from what has been said about the torx head being chewed up a reason to replace.

It's probably just a CYA liability thing.
I've certainly never done it.

It’s because they have a thread compound on them originally which comes off when you remove them, I’ve never renewed them before but I discard any iffy looking ones & fit more used ones in their place, a drop of thread lock wouldn’t hurt but I never bother
