Default JLR cuts 10% of it's workers at Halewood

Bad news today for the people at the JLR Halewood plant that make the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover discovery sport. https://europe.autonews.com/automake...obs-uk-factory

JLR are saying it is because of a tough world economic climate and NOT Brexit.

It is tough out there at the moment for various reasons, import tariffs on some countries, a general economic slow down ( Chinese economy had slowest growth) and diesel engines not being as popular as they were. When you are selling a luxury product this is usually the first thing people cut back on.

A friend who sells heavy industrial equipment all over the world was saying how slow he is finding it. Usually his order books are full at least 6 months ahead but not at the moment. Orders are still coming in but not as buoyant as usual.

JLR were saying that about China, this time last year.
This time this year they've been talking-up the past 6 months sales & enthusing about future prospects of that part of the World.

Further Economics

Concerning World trade prospects and entirely without reference to any banned subjects there is rather good news, notwithstanding the loss of jobs in Halewood.

Anyway, to dispel apparent current gloom and speculation, the following just happened to catch my eye yesterday in the Mail. Leaving earlier doom and gloom predictions aside for the sake of sanity, here's something to soothe the savage breast, to placate the angry and to produce a soft and warm glow:

Enjoy.

I've been trying to find out the drivetrain details of the new Evoque since a Hybrid spy shot surfaced.

Talk is of a transverse three cylinder 1.5 turbo engine under the bonnet with an electric drivetrain on the rear!!!!

Maybe it really is nothing to do with Brexit but they all seem to be expanding their European based manufacturing and winding up their UK sites.
Perhaps with if we diverge from EU workplace standards etc., employment levels plummet and wages follow perhaps some cheap manufacturing jobs will come back.

Alternatively perhaps as a nation we're going to shift towards high-skill, high pay jobs and we'll all be swanning around in Teslas not giving a second thought to dirty old jobs in manufacturing.

Who knows how its going to pan out? We truly live in interesting times!
