Get a long flat blade screwdriver and give the cap a bop anticlockwise on one of the ridges........you won't get a set of Mole grips in there I can tell you

Ok so after finally getting the chance to check the Master clutch cylinder.

The news is bad.….there was no fluid in the reservoir and so looks like the Slave cylinder has died……

I will get quotes on how much it's going to cost...might as well get the clutch replaced.

Any body in Ireland who knows there way around the Gearbox????

How much fluid did you find in the undertray/dripping from the gearbox? Depending on the rate of loss from your slave cylinder, you may be able to rig up a temporary way of refilling the master, then bleeding from the nipple on the pipe leading into the bell-housing. On most (sensibly designed) cars, there is no problem topping up the master cylinder - the reservoir is under the bonnet, where it should be. This way, the car MAY be driveable until you can conveniently organise its repair. There are some good how-to's on here, I successfully changed my clutch and slave on my CDT this year, but I would recommend giving yourself a couple of weekends once you have rounded up all the right tools, a willing and supportive helper, and in-garage tea and coffee making facilities to keep your spirits up. I assume you are reasonably fit and of a calm and persevering disposition.

OK so I got a quote for the Clutch,Flywheel and Slave Cylinder to be replaced.....

Cost ready for this......1500 euros....

So its breakdown was 500 labour and 1000 for parts.....

ok so...I got a quote from another Garage that as soon as I asked said that the sub frame had to come off...

I was checking ebay and found this....

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362594279...m=362594279396

what do you gurus think.

no no no, although I have no experience the train of thought is that is can snap the crank shaft, also that taking the sub frame off allows for a better job to be done.

parts are very expensive, you can get them cheaper then that.
further more threads on this forum also suggest the dual mass flywheels don't often fail.

I think marinabrian has suggested this kit https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LuK-REPSET-PRO-LANDROVER-FREELANDER-MG-ZT-ROVER-75-ALL-2-0-CDTI-623314533/202302582564
sorry Brian if it was not you

From what I recall of other threads a clutch change is about £650 but I cant recall if that's all in or plus parts
