Default Leather seat repair....

Drivers seat had small hole with the filling showing when I bought the car. Gradually got worse as I get in and out and rubbing the area. What is the best repair kit to use?
Or just get some really sticky thick black tape !

Unlikely that any sticky tape will work, too much temperature up and down, it will end up sticking to your back. If its leather a proper repair will cost about 200/250 quid. Chris.S.

I tried a repair job on a leather sofa some years back. The repair lasted a few days. it's not something I'd try again. Why not get a quote or two first. Maybe the kits are better now but I's start off by looking at a professional job first.

I had a small tear in the driver's bolster in the 260 when I first got it. I went on Ebay, found a place that supplied black vinyl and did free samples! Got the free sample, way more than I needed, cut an appropriate size piece, worked it into the tear so that it lay flat behind the tear and glued it in place.

This is the way we used to repair leather covers on gymnastic equipment
Cut a piece large enough to fit under the hole/tear, apply contact adhesive to one side at a time, & glue. You couldn't see the join

Have a look on Rimmers website (Rover clearance parts) They have several seat covers available, it would be better to replace with a genuine old stock cover.

And when I needed a better driver’s seat for my lhd car I stole the passenger’s seat from my daughter’s expired rhd car. Stripped all the leather off the seat and back, most difficult were the clips in the back and moved everything over. The UK passenger’s seat was almost mint, unworn, tis now my driver’s seat.

Lot’s of seats in scrapyards all over Europe with what can be mint condition UK driver’s seats. Average price for a complete seat here in Sweden in A condition is just less than £100, and that's the whole seat.

Could be worth looking into rather than looking at some already half tatty leather covers.

Just an idea

I had the pretend leather bolster and side panel on my drivers seat replaced with real leather cost £130 all I had to do was drop the car off at the upholsterers and they did the rest.
Cheers Ian
