RAC last year £14 per month for us in any vehicle. We have 4. Used them once when the Streetwise had a damp BCU and needed a tow home. All dry the day after when I took it out and dried it on top of a radiator.
Renewal in July was £19.50 per month so I switched to the AA for £15 per month.
The MG TF is covered on its classic car insurance policy through out Europe.
Every year I look to change provider as loyalty just costs money so just keep moving.

I'm with AutoAid, but they don't do cover for my impending European trip

Searching online, I found a company called Dynamo with cheap cover, but on checking them out, it appears they are a total scam...can anyone recommend a company with European breakdown cover at a reasonable cost?

I use the RAC European cover, on one occasion I had to use it. I had a very friendly German at my Hotel within 20 mins who fixed the problem and the next time I took the cover out there was no increase in premium.

A workmate took no cover out on a trip to Austria earlier in the year, his car kept stalling so he popped into a garage, they diagnosed a split air hose but it was a RHD specific part so could no get hold of one so they taped it up and used some sealer on it so ''it would get him home''. The cost of the bodge was over 300Euro's and of course no guarantee. If he had been with the RAC or similar they would have sourced a part and had it courierd out to him or had the car shipped back.

As a buy the way a classic car owner I know paid to have his car shipped back to the UK from the French/Swiss border for medical reasons, it cost him just over £2000. Paying £8 a day seems like a good idea when you find what it would cost to get your car home. I have heard several tales of cars being left abroad as some of these polices will only cover you up to £500 of recovery, probably OK if you are only going to France but any further than that and you will be digging deep to get it home.

Following a front Spring snap at 1130 at night, the AA man fitted a multi fit wheel and spacer, so I could get to a tyre depot under my own speed, with him following close behind. I was very grateful I can tell you !!
I'm a member of some 22 years with the AA, it's more expensive than other companies, but, had I not had their help, it would have cost a darn sight more to call out a recovery I reckon, so worth every penny.

Pleased we got you sorted. We’ve got a good team of lads in the North East. In fact last week one of our lads had to put his hand down a sewer after a member accidentally flushed his only key down the toilet!

RAC are not as good as they were in response times and I've had some poor experiences. green flag as mentioned will not cover old cars. in the end I stayed with RAC and got cost down with Tesco club card points. they do special deals with double or triple value. I'D strongly urge everyone to have some cover as breakdowns happen and you shouldn't risk getting stranded. motorway recovery can also cost a packet outside a recovery organisation.
