That's interesting. When l changed my plugs a few weeks ago, one plug came out oily, the nearside one. I posted about it & Brian suggested the cam cover seal. I haven't done anything about it yet.
Another avenue to explore. Thanks very much.

Mine was nearside end plug, ever since the seal was changed the car has ran smoothly.

Well, that sounds very promising then. I'll confirm the situation regarding the IACV then tackle that cam seal. Thanks.

Default Above & Beyond......

Many thanks to Steve (member Ste.Sales) who has very kindly sent me a replacement IACV free of charge, along with an Elm dongle to plug in the diagnostics socket, also gratis.

Another very kind & helpful member of this excellent forum.

My work for tonight is currently cancelled so l'm about to tackle the IACV swap.

My newly downloaded Torque app is listing no fault codes despite occasional management light activity, so hopefully this will do the trick.

Ok, job done & first impressions are that the problem is cured. I just tested her up & down the road as parking is at a premium down here & I didn't want to lose my space.
She didn't stall & the idle remained steady, if a little bit lumpy but I think that may be because she was stone cold.
Regarding the job itself, Steve mentioned how he did it but that some people actually remove the inlet manifold to access the bottom bolts. That just seems a whole lot of work for nothing to me. Following Steve's advice I had the valve replaced in twenty minutes like this:

After I finished I remembered that I had this in the boot:

But actually, it was too long to get to the bottom bolts so the other tool would have been needed anyway.

My thanks again to Steve who supplied the replacement valve & an ELM dongle which I've now got working via Bluetooth. I also have one which connects via Wi-fi which also works with the Torque app. What are peoples thoughts on the merits of the two systems. I think Wi-fi may be a little less draining on the phones battery but have no concrete knowledge on the matter. Also is it ok to leave the dongle connected when you leave the car. I have noticed that the Wi-fi one gets quite hot so don't think I would leave that one in. Not sure about the ELM yet.

Glad to hear the swap went without a hitch. Hope your problems are now sorted, time will tell! As regards the torque app, i use bluetooth- but a different dongle to the one i sent you. Its lower profile with an on/off button on it and i leave it plugged in all the time. Once you learn to use all the features of the torque app, it can be a very useful tool.

Thanks Steve.

Regarding Bluetooth/Wi-fi: I do notice that my mobile network is in operation with the Bluetooth which means it could be eating my data quota (2G pcm). Is that the case as with Wi-fi it wouldn't be registering with my 4G which is preferable?

This thread is interesting to me, as my 45 suffers from similar issues, but is so intermittent it's difficult to problem solve.

From October last year it was fine until earlier this month, then its cleared for ten days and then running fast coming home tonight.

TBH, it actually negates the need to fit my Hans gauge, but l will anyway.

Well hopefully, my initial result will prove to be long-term. I'll keep you posted.
