75 2001 CDT Major service help
Found a Rover specialist. My 75 CDT has done 61K and had been serviced every 5K for the past 4 years. Rover mechanic has said that a full service is going to cost about £300 but that would be the oil filter change service - all others about £150 inc VAT.
NOW - 1 does anyone know when the fuel filter service actually needs doing? 2 specialist has stated that the fuel pump may well give up the ghost when I have this service done - bit scary - is this true? is it expensive? 3 Because I have started to listen for fuel pump failure I notice a clicking noise coming from the central console (round about the radio) after I have turned the engine off. This lasts for about 2 seconds - is this normal Sorry for all of this but this is my first Rover & I'm still nervous - had it 2 weeks & have been hit with electric seats not working, blowing up the sunroof a plenum that was 4'' full of water (I hadnt heard of a plenum before!) and now being told that the fuel pump may need replacing. Think I need a bit of re-assuring. Last edited by Dib; 9th December 2008 at 08:11.. |

Both diesel and petrol cars need an annual or 15,000 mile service. Every 5000 miles is totally unnecessary. The fuel pump won't fail Because the filter is changed, that is just a scare story. The clicking sound is probably the heater motor shutting down once the engine is off. If you're close buy me pop round and I'll have a look over it for you.

There is a copy of the official MGR service schedules here, but I believe you must subscribe to the forum to access it: http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/inde...epage=techdata TC |

Why do alleged service people come out with such utter NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-.
As Greeners says no problem with fuel pump due to changing filter, although the fuel pumps do have problems but nothing to do with changing a routine service item. Services should be carried out at 15,000 miles or annually or as indicated by service indicator. You can, if doing a lot of Town driving, just change oil and filter at 6 months, but IMHO not required. |

The more detailed Inspection service should need more labour - the garage is supposed to check brakes, suspension, steering and quite a few other things not covered in the oil service. There is also additional expense for air and pollen filters, though if the car's only done 10K since the last changes, you could ask them not to bother.
The garage has probably quoted you book prices on the standard schedules for vehicles of your car's age/mileage. You'd need to negotiate an actual list of what you want, maybe with the official schedule and your previous service history to hand. |

Dave,
I'm only about 20mins the other side of Stortford so would be good to get another contact - my specialist is in Ware (about 5 mins from me) however when he said a new sunroof motor would be 312 + VAT when I have been offered one for £85 inc, I have to ask what exactly I'm paying for. 75 smaller bp - yes in silver & slightly strange blue leather - but its growing on me! |

Hi Dib
If yours has been serviced every 5K it's probably not going to need an awful lot doing, depending on what's been changed previously. We give the choice to owners what they want changed to suit their pocket. I'll give advisories of what might need changing soon. Depends on driving habits really. One fellow came to us last month with his 75 with 100k miles covered. Brake discs were original & still in spec. A ZT owner on the hand had worn his discs & pads out within 20k miles!!! So you get the idea! :xmas-smiley-022:

Thanks Jules,
I'm just having to get used to it thats all - I'm so used to having medium sized company cars that I dont touch (& have never needed anything apart from a service) that to be asked questions & given choices is all a bit strange. Still glad I came out of the company car scheme, as the 75 still makes me smile every time I get in it. I smile a lot more every time it starts, does the 70 mile round trip to work & gets me home in beautiful comfort! Dib |
