Finally got to use a friend’s garage pit so decided to give the underside of the old girl one final clean and take the opportunity to pump some extra wax into the cavities before winter sets in. After brushing the majority of dried road dirt off, I tried out a hand held steam cleaner swmbo bought for cleaning the oven etc. Got totally soaked and covered in filthy black water but dead happy with the results – as the old girl came up like new and confirmed there was no damage to the original underbody protection or any hidden rust worms eating at the subframe and suspension arms tho a little surface rust around the exhaust strap nowt serious yet. Not bad for a 14 year old motor. Can’t say the same for me tho’ soaked through and stained with dirty water I reckon it’ll take all night to get clean …. then I’ll be back underneath tomorrow to spray in some extra wax and see if I can do something with that rusty exhaust strap – happy days

In light of my hesitation prob upon acceleration and slightly smokey exhaust on my diesel saloon (Mrs Moonstone) I finally got the time to whip the EGR and MAF off to give them a good clean. According to the T4 the Maf was giving OOL readings and the EGR valve has been sticking. Whist I was at it I also filled the diesel filter with neat Redex which will hopefully get rid of muck etc in that part of the fuel system. I will give the car a run in a few hours once I finish work to see what happens..

As far as the MAF goes - I cleaned it with contact cleaner, not holding my breath that its done anything but you never know - worth a try..

and just for reference the degreaser/cleaner I used to clean the EGR valve was Screwfix's "no-nonesense degreaser".. worked a treat:

http://www.screwfix.com/p/no-nonsens...ser-5ltr/88668

soaked the EGR in it for 1/2 hour or so - then scrubbed the remaining muck off with an old toothbrush, then rinsed in fresh water..

I would suggest a run to Glasgow should do the trick.....

Just been out in her to get some scran - and I can confirm that she is pulling like a train now.. no hesitation at all.. fabulous.. So something or a combination has worked..

and I agree a further test to somewhere like Glasgow may give further confirmation... xx
