Oh dear.

Are you saying that with the engine running and the oil filler cap removed, and with the palm of your hand over the open orifice, pulsating pressure can be felt?

Simon.

Pressurisation in the sump suggests worn pistons/ piston rings. Oil light means low oil pressure and usually suggests worn bearings.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Hi mate, first thing I'd do is replace the oil pressure switch as it's not too bad a job and relatively inexpensive, when the light comes on do your tappets rattle a lot louder if not it's quite possibly the switch thats faulty!

I agree. They can become contaminated and malfunction if the engine oil hasn't been changed frequently.

I'm not a 1.8 expert but I think that might be the ATF cooling fan which should run only when it gets very hot.
