No, you are correct. There are two separate air flow routes, via the heater matrix or the evaporator for cooling. Any smells are from the evaporator are due to being left unused far a while.

Left on and under control of the climate system, as I do, the evaporator will get a regular good soaking with condensate, which will flush any dirt and smell away down the condensate drains. I have never had mine smell.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

If I understand RAVE's diagram correctly Harry, there is in fact only one route. All incoming air passes over the evaporator. It then is directed over the heater matrix and/or directly to the vents depending upon temperature selection.

OK, perhaps you are correct - I was thinking about the air flow mix, via the heater matrix versus ambient air.

The same advice applies - use it and the regular flow of condensate will keep it clean and smell free.

The only time l get a bit of a 'full hoover' smell is on recirculation.
Apart from that, it's fine. I use AC most of the time too.
