Default Boot Leak

I've had a small leak since I bought the car, quite minor compared to a lot of members experiences. I recently investigated & it appears to be tracking down the offside wheelarch:

I'm assuming boot or screen seal. Does it look familiar to anyone?

Looks to be in exactly the same place as mine though you have a drop more water there than I get.

Mine only ever gets wet in heavy rain. For that reason, and knowing I've gone to great lengths to seal rear lights, chrome side strips and rear screen, I am convinced it's coming over the boot lip when the water pours down there.
I have a boot liner in mine so if any were to drop from the screen it would collect on the liner directly below. The boot seal however allows water to drip behind the boot lining so is more difficult to detect.

Good luck...it's all good fun this detective stuff anyway.

Yes, I have a boot liner but have removed it until I seal the leak as it doesn't allow the water to evaporate.

Well I use the boot liner as my talc powder. It shows exactly where the water has dripped if it comes from the screen, then I just wipe it up and add a bit of Capt Tolleys. This keeps my boot floor cover nice and dry.

In the event of a drop getting past ( as I said I think from the boot lip seal) I test every time it rains and if the is a small pool I mop that up straight away with kitchen roll.

But I am determined to beat it.

My leak enters behind the trim & totally misses the liner, simply collecting under it.

My Mk2 saloon boot (spare wheel well) cover carpet constantly getting soaked in N/S corner (behind rear light cluster). I've replaced the rear light gasket with a new one-piece part but it's still happening. Following rain (or after cleaning) I can detect significant water presence by probing the panel slots (one of which is where the boot lamp fits) that run across the inside of the boot just below the rear screen aperture so I'm now convinced it's the well reported leak point via the screen clips.
Now just waiting for a good dry spell and plucking up courage to lift the (expensive) glass trim and add sealant to each clip position.

Ok.. Iv sealed rear wing trims when water ingress was detected coming from here.

http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...329_144423.jpg

Iv replaced rear light gaskets. Used Captain trolly's creeping crack cure on window clips. I use a syringe some times to get it to go were I want it. Saves taking window out. All th above cured.

New one about a month ago on N/S was a bit of a tester. Found out it was coming through between boot lid bracket were it is bolted to car. It was dripping down out of th cut out in boot. 2 liberal applications of CTCCC and alls well.

Sooo I'm thinking yours could be doing th same on th O/S. But travelling down th inside of th boot liner to settle were your fotoe shows.

Good luck

Phil
