Default Near Side Low Beam Headlamp Problem

My message centre has started to alert me that my near side low beam headlamp has failed.

This loom (of many cables) appears to be suspended well above the Front End Valance Assembly, and so does not appear to have contact with it.

My experienced Rover mechanic changed the H7 light bulb to “rectify the problem” . That solved the problem for a short time – probably until I negotiated one of our many, many speed humps at low speed.

By gently hooking the loom with a length of wire and raising it a little, the message centre warning disappeared… until a while later when I switched the headlamps on.

The loom is quite stiff and seems to stay well above the Valance Assembly - more in a direct line with the headlamp assembly.
All other lights including the side repeaters function properly.

Only two leads connect to the headlamp nine pin connector.
I find it unusual that, IF this one particular cables insulation has become abraded, why haven’t others been affected.

Is there a tool for inserting cables into connectors?

Regards,

Are you referring to the wiring loom near the LH headlamp? If so, I'd suggest you check the thicker loom on the RH side behind the screen wash reservoir. That's the one prone to chafing on the body seam. Bumper off to get access.

Default Left Hand Side Headlamp

Thank youT-Cut for your input.

My problem is the LHS (passenger side) low beam headlamp.
The RHS harness crosses from under the right wing, over the notorious crease to the other headlamp unit.

I can temporarily rectify the LHS low beam by gently moving / raising the harness a little. I question whether an electrical short on the opposite side of the engine bay that feeds the other headlamp unit have an impact on this unit.. And wouldn't the other (RHS) headlamp unit also have a problem - IF there was a shortage problem there?

Though not an expert in this matter, the connection between the two headlamp units is via the LSM, IPK etc.
Interestingly, whilst the message centre records a low beam fault; light of a much lower intensity continues to burn. Though too bright to be the parking
light bulb.

I guess my solution is to have the front bumper off and engage an auto electrician.

egremont.

I believe the RHS harness contains lines going to the LHS, so worth checking it. Any chafing there has implications for all the front lights.
