Aircon regas ?
After my earlier thread about air-conditioning not working I've now replaced the fan and resistor.
I did not disturb the air-conditioning circuit and the fan is now working but its not blowing cold. It had a regas a few months back and was working fine until the fan went As the system probably overheated before the problem was found , will it need regassing again or could the condenser be at fault? |

Probably only coincidence.---
Did you have your Air-Con leak tested before getting it recharged ?? Must have had a leak that needed fixing because of the first loss of gas. |

It was working OK for a few months
Do they not leak test the system when regassing ? The condenser looks a bit ropey could this be the source of the leak? |

Depends on who did it, I have heard of numerous places just putting some gas in to put some cash in there pocket.
The other problem a lot of places like Halfrauds and Kwik Fit have people who don't know how to use the kit so they just plug it in and when it warns there is a leak they just override the warning. As soon as the ambient air temp goes above 20 degrees most A/C engineers are flat out so if you want it done quickly you pays your money and take your chances. To do the job properly takes about an hour. |

Just had mine recharged at ATS with a Groupon voucher, mine lasts about 9 months before becoming ineffective there was 150g of gas in the system new it's about 500g I just get it filled every year
But talking to the chap who did it and he says the machine does a vaccum test and it's possible some pin holes are pulled closed so no leaks but the system when under pressure can force pin holes open , he didn't say why the machine didn't do a pressure test , but I think some air con specialists do? |

To do the job properly you should do a pressure test with Nitrogen and a vacuum test, if either are not done you are not doing it correctly.
Not heard of the pin hole thing before but every day is a school day, it is usually seals drying out, a failing hose, joint or component. Any car that can not hold its charge for at least 18 months has a leak that needs fixing, I have worked on cars that still have a good charge of refrigerant after 10 years and they still work. If a recharge was several hundred £'s I suspect a lot more cars would be repaired or have no A/C. |

The condenser looks pretty rough a lot of the fins have dropped out presumably as a result of it getting hot with no fan so I've ordered another one

Both of mine have required a new condenser due to deterioration and small leaks - I'd guess there is a good chance you require one.
