Default Cdti starter motor

Had trouble with starter motor got it working by tapping it a few times, decided on the repair kit for a £10 , have to say it was fine for a few weeks but tonight let me down again, fortunately I’ve swooped over the one off my manual saloon on to the auto tourer, is there anything else I can do myself to the failed starter or do I get a refurbished unit
Many thanks Les

Default Starter

When it failed before if I remember correctly you could hear a clicking but it wouldn’t engage or turn over , give it several taps with an iron bar and if you was lucky it would work , replaced copper terminals etc in repair kit was fine thus time it failed out of the blue fortunately on the drive , not a noise from the starter motor , as I mentioned swapped it for the one on my saloon fired straight away didn’t see any point in trying it off the car

Seems like you are right. Repair kit can do the job, though if everything else is OK.
I am sure you can find used in decent condition for not that much money.

Unusual to fail after fitting new contacts.--

However the failure the second time could be something simple like the supply to the small tag on the motor itself.

Changing over to a different motor could have corrected a bad contact.---

That's why I asked if it worked off the car. You might be searching for another starter motor with no good reason.---
