Default OH Help please 2.0CDT Auto not starting

Yes first post and its a Help request.

Have a 2001 2.0CDT Connoisseur Auto, well the wife has. BMW Engine and gear box.

Last night it would not start, I got her going and thought it was just not correctly in Park or the immobliser. Wife drives home and does not tell me it would only do 25mph for the first 1/2 mile then drove a normal.

This morning I took the Rover out and no power would only crawl at a max of 30mph, then I stopped and restarted her and after a minute she came alive and all was well, till I hit a junction and back to 30mph, went to station and filled the tank £20 worth of fuel, the tank did have 1/4 full in it to start. Now restarted the engine and on the way home she cut out and died, this happened twice and I was lucky to be able to coast to my door.

I have changed the fuel filter and air filter, cleaned the air mass meter, the pump at the battery is working, no air in the system and with a neighbours ear to the rear seat he can hear the tank pump prime.

Still will not start, any ideas, as I am stuck, had plans to work on my car this week not the Rover.

Is there a 75 Specialist in N. Ireland??

Any help greatly taken, I have been looking at the crank and cam sensors bit in the forums as well, but really want to work on my other car.

The Rover is great, its done 97K no trouble till now, we got it with 68K and love it.

Cheers

Hi and welcome aboard.
After the first half of your post I was saying "Ah, MAF sensor" but reading on a bit I am not so sure..
I would advise you to check the plenum drains for water though. If they get blocked it will flood your ECU.

I am sure another diesel guru will be along in a few minutes.

Sorry I can't help you more with your first question.

Sorry to hear you have problems.
Welcome to the Club too by the way.

As stated could be water in the Plenum chambers taking out ECU always the first place to check.
Cam Sensor would stop it starting but not normally stop the car, that would be more Crank Sensor.
Fuel Pump came to mind but you say both working.

Report back after checking Plenums so people can advise further.

Could be a secondary fuel pump playing up. Do you hear a buzzing noise near to the battery?

Day 2

It rained last night so this morning the drain hole did have water, but I checked in were the ECU is and it is nice and dry. I clean out out all the NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- every other week when I wash the car.

Anyway

Fuel can connected to lead from 2nd pump with the key turned and lights on the pump fills up the can, a nice 5 minutes of this and the can is filling up nicely. So that will be the pumps working OK then.

Still not starting, AMF lead removed and will not start,

Will now go to the Crank Case Sensor as this now seems to be the hardest one to get at.

Have looked on Ebay and found this Rover 75 crank shaft sensor and lead
from a dealer for £44 + postage its comes with a new lead.

Has any one tried this before? (Contacted seller and it will not work on my 75, but is getting the correct one its around £120ish, but still cheaper than Xparts)

Any more thoughts, the Dealers were good not far from SS Logans and did speak with them yesterday on the phone, they were thinking of the Pumps, but this is now ruled out,

Any other thoughts??

Cheers
ColinL

Now with old Crank Sensor out, without taking starter motor off, mirrors and lights can see all, but need smaller hands....

Just to wait of the New Sensor to arrive, due Sat morning so time to play with cleaning all the bits and pieces I have removed so far....

Then spend Friday working on my Car, and nice RV8 4:5 TVR Engine waiting to go in next week. ah the joys of car ownership...
